Los Pueblos 03:28
Los Pueblos Sitting writing songs with my friends in the Kitchen Talking bout the day that’s past and what comes next Outside our walls a nation is slowly fragmenting And he who tells the biggest lie gets the biggest cheque Whatever colour stripe or skin You got to keep on talking and don’t give up Life’s worth living well it’s worth a shot Time ain’t waiting so don’t forget We’re all the same Don’t play the Game That separates Slow down Slow down it’s all their to distract you The words that are spoken are spoken to hide what’s broken Why try to change the world when the world’s past changing? Talkings not just talking when it changes minds Whatever colour stripe or skin You got to keep on talking and don’t give up Life’s worth living well it’s worth a shot Time ain’t waiting so don’t forget We’re all the same Don’t play the Game That separates They’re chalking the names of the dead on the pavements of Buffalo Scrawling slogans of love on the walls Why fight Love ? Why fight Love ? When a demagogue rises he rises and leaves us behind him When a demagogue falls he falls and takes us down Los Pueblos unidos jamas sera vencidos The people united will never be divided Whatever colour stripe or skin You got to keep on talking and don’t give up Life’s worth living well it’s worth a shot Time ain’t waiting so don’t forget We’re all the same Don’t play the Game That separates Why Fight Love Why Fight Love Why Fight Love Why Fight Love

After The Fall It’s a tough call when you lose your mind You fight hard to stay sane while all the while Your nearest and dearest do their best to console As they fearfully slot into their new roles You become Nigel while they get busy making plans Decisions that were yours now out of your hands Impressions get set as the tale gets told Pretty soon you find you’ve lost your hold Oh oh oh .... A hard place to come back from It ain’t no place at all Never thought the return could be so hard After the fall I heard things you would not believe How many sugars does he take in his tea? You who shone brightly before you broke down Good memories are fading behind their anxious frowns Still you keep on fighting for that bit of self esteem When they gonna realise it’s not what it seems? Your mind is still working behind their loving glass wall How you gonna smash it without making them fall? Oh oh oh… A hard place to come back from It ain’t no place at all Never thought the return could be so hard After the fall

Mistakes 03:59
Mistakes I made the same mistakes Create the same old aches I place my feet on higher ground And watch me tower over the world But I guess I’ll settle down I’m coming along in leaps and bounds Oh yeah Standing by a polluted canal Well wade on in if you want to This dry dock’s well beyond repair And the look you gave me said it all But I guess I’ll settle down I’m coming along in leaps and bounds I kid myself this battle’s won Best step forward not one foot wrong Take what’s yours and slide right back Wait patiently all through the night You know so much so hold that dear Time and tide wait for me no more But I guess I’ll settle down I’m coming along in leaps and bounds I kid myself this battle’s won Best step forward not one foot wrong Oh yeah
4.
Slip Away 04:28
Slip Away I’m tired of fighting I want to call it a day I got half a mind To slip away And I wish that you were here To make me stay One day lasts forever You by the Serpentine Sunlight on the water Sparkled in your eyes and into mine Such a perfect day won’t ever fade away From my mind I want to write you a letter I don’t know what to say I got half a mind To slip away And I wish that you were here To make me stay
5.
Firehouse 03:54
Firehouse To make a better day, keep your mind awake And all you have to say is “come with me and play” And when your mind’s at ease, think of the mystery Of why the Earth is round, and pulls us to the ground And if you wonder why, we all have to die Do you wonder when we’ll be born again? In the Firehouse, they don’t need a hero In the morning sun, a king has no clothes I made my lover cry, the night I said goodbye I watched her breaking down, crumple to the ground I left her standing there, hip rest against the chair Wet lashes eyes are raw, I loved you all the more A love like ceiling wax, when it’s hard it breaks our backs When it’s hot it melts our hearts, changing every day In the Firehouse They don’t need a hero In the morning sun A king has no clothes Where the rivers meet It all adds up to zero Where the fires burn A king has no home Now I’m tired and heading home, on the road, on my own Afraid my plane goes down, Ffuture loss of sound I watched the world go by, to a song that made him cry I’ve seen the waters rise, and wash it all away In the Firehouse They don’t need a hero In the morning sun A king has no clothes Where the rivers meet It all adds up to zero Where the fires burn A king has no home
6.
Back In The Day Back in the day we were as one Living for laughs, getting high on the sun Life in the moment, coasting free The future was ours, whatever would be Now we are islands ravaged by storm All of us fighting, some of us gone I think of the dead, do they see us down here? Angels in Heaven keeping us near And I wonder How does it look from up there? Are they helping ? Helping us out down here And God knows God only knows I could use a hand Help me fight Fight off the dark and make a stand Back in the day we couldn’t see What lay ahead, how hard it would be Running on empty, tired and drawn Seeking the strength to carry on And I wonder How does it look from up there? Are they helping ? Helping us out down here And God knows God only knows I could use a hand Help me fight Fight off the dark and make a stand Oh Lord Hear my prayer Keep me from falling Into despair Hello lover Take my hand Lead me home So I understand And I wonder How does it look from up there? Are they helping ? Helping us out down here And God knows God only knows I could use a hand Help me fight Fight off the dark and make a stand Oh Lord Hear my prayer Keep me from falling Into despair Hello lover Take my hand Lead me home So I understand

Never Too Late Sitting on a wall, waiting for my time to come I’m not the only one to feel this way Catching up on news, what the politicians say They’re going to change their views if it helps them to stay If you’ve something to say you better shout it out today Cos it’s never too late to make a change Breaking all the rules, teachers gone and lost your soul She thought it was easy to hold but your hand slipped away Kicking up a storm, I can hear the engines fire I know it’s not your style to lose when you play If you’ve something to say you better shout it out today Cos it’s never too late to make a change What do you do when the world moves on without you? What do you do for fun? How does it feel when the sun it sets without you? Where do you go when you run? Sitting on a wall, waiting for your man to come He says he won’t be long, you’re waiting all day Early morning blues thinking ‘bout the day to come Your not the only one to feel this way If you’ve something to say, you better shout it out today Cos it’s never too late to make a change …

Tears 07:25
Tears Climb the greasy pole, gotta get to the top It’s who you know not what you feel if you want to be in the club Inch by inch the end is changed as you justify the means Your popularity will blind them to their shattered dreams Don’t curry favour my friend Your so-called ‘friends’ will cheat you in the end Don’t curry favour my friend It will end in tears in the end Profit while you can, it’s the only rule that counts Cut a slice of public pie, sell it straight to your account Stash the money far away where the taxman can’t come near Take more than you give back, the law will hide you have no fear Don’t sell the silver my friend The audit will betray you in the end Don’t sell the silver my friend It will end in tears in the end The global world’s a tough place to compete in nowadays Gotta keep that growth rate rising in the battlefields of trade Social insecurity, zero hours pay Tell them migrants are the reason, come to darken our bright day Don’t blame the scapegoat my friend Humanity will shame you in the end Don’t blame the scapegoat my friend It will end in tears in the end The country’s under threat, the hoards are at the door Tell the people you’ll protect them then send them out to war Make policy before the fact, no one will ever know The nation needs a strong man when the wind blows Don’t lie to me my friend History will reveal you in the end Don’t lie to me my friend It will end in tears in the end The doubters that surround you will beset you til the end Better arm yourself with power, silence voices that dissent It’s your will over their will, freedom’s a price they’ll have to pay Your justified, let nothing bar your way Don’t court the darkness my friend Its power will devour you in the end Don’t court the darkness my friend It will end in tears in the end Now you’ve made it, you’re on top, your enemies swept aside Broken and defeated by the unrelenting tide But in the wake a nameless shape starts slowly to take form Your Nemesis is rising and will cloud your golden dawn Don’t set your sights on glory my friend Vanity will blind you in the end Don’t set your sights on glory my friend It will end in tears in the end The vulnerable, the dispossessed, the underdog, the lame Will rise to hold you to account for deeds done in their name Better hope that Love and Reason quickly gain the upper hand If you want a peaceful union in your bruised, divided land Don’t take us all for granted my friend Our bleeding hearts may save you in the end Don’t take us all for granted my friend It will end in tears in the end It will end in tears in the end It will end in tears in the end It will end in tears

Off The Handle Sometimes I feel like my head’s caving in Sometimes I wish that the whole thing would stop Apparently this gets better with age My youth’s long gone but I still feel this rage But mostly I just feel sad This whole fucking world’s going mad I need a drink just to calm me down I can’t believe that I’m still in this town I’ll find somewhere that isn’t right here I’ll find somewhere where I won’t shed a tear And we’ll sing But mostly I just feel sad This whole fucking world’s going mad But mostly I just feel sad I walked away with a smile on my face I was wondering why I was feeling so out of place This made me feel well never again It’ll take some time to deal with the pain And we’ll sing Mostly I just feel sad This whole fucking world’s going mad But mostly I just feel sad…

Powerplay 03:53
Powerplay Changes come for the better Ignorance it grows like the past Pilot gets lost in stormy weather Can’t seem to find his way to Earth If I told you the truth would you listen? Would you hear me if I called out loud Soldier gets lost in the desert No one could see him for the crowd Do you feel out of place? And do you feel powerplay? Strangers don’t feel so welcome Lovers get crossed in friendly fire Me, I’m just lost in the city A hundred thousand other guns for hire And do you feel out of place? And do you feel powerplay? Down in the playground they’re picking up lies No time for pity No time to cry Everybody’s missing Bunny They didn’t think she’d be so long A hole in the dust on the window They didn’t think they’d have to be strong And do you feel out of place? And do you feel powerplay?…

I Believe 03:08
I Believe If you asked me do I believe in God above I’d say the only thing I know is I believe in Love And if you made it clear that your heart and soul were pure I’d open mine to yours and never shut the door Thank you for loving me Thank you for being you Thank you for being there I’ll be there for you no matter where And if you’re feeling blue and like you’ve had enough I’d tell you all the tales I know until I’d made you laugh And if you’re feeling lost inside like you don’t know where to turn I’d take you to a place I know where you won’t feel alone Thank you for loving me Thank you for being you Thank you for being there I’ll be there for you no matter where And if your mind’s in turmoil, thoughts racing round and round I’d do all that I could to put your feet back on the ground And if your world turns sour and the Night starts to invade I’d tell you of the happy days that you and I have made Thank you for loving me Thank you for being you Thank you for being there I’ll be there for you no matter where Oh - oh … And when life’s mountain gets to steep to climb I’d take hold of your load and make your troubles mine And if you asked me is God waiting up above? I’d say the only thing I know is I believe in Love

So The Story Goes Stories are told, from a higher place This one is sad, some may relate I heard you laugh, out in the street I saw you cry, sweet tears of relief You broke on through, their thin disguise Left them for dead, oh the years go by Tell it like it is, like the story goes One lie at a time, like the story goes The wild blue yonder, stretches for miles Can we escape our troubled lives? The circumstances into which we fall May be the mirror to our ends Stories are told, tell me another one Things don’t add up, all of a sudden For heaven’s sake, tell me how this ends Save all the best, right to the last The wild blue yonder, stretches for miles Can we escape our troubled lives The circumstances into which we fall May be the mirror to our ends

about

Sequestered in a terraced house in Bath (early 2016), three old friends gather around a kitchen table to share their musical and lyrical offerings to the song writing craft.

This ensemble began to consolidate a bunch of song ideas into the nascent beginnings of what became 'The New Spirits', shaping a dark, yet, hopeful musical journey to overcome a jaded world view in these precarious times.

Zachary Ware (Guitarist – The Proclaimers), Jesse Lawrence (Film maker – If You Can Hear Me, Issac, Runt) and Ben Walker (Songwriter) have each contributed tunes that are stylistically differing from one another, but maintain a shared sensibility with one track segueing into the next, creating a contemporary narrative with many a musical influence clinging to its shirt tails.

With the production and multi instrumental talents of Simon Willey (Brian Ferry) and additional talents of other musicians Simon Cottrell RIP- (Bass), Clive Jenner (The Proclaimers – Drums,) Steven Christie (The Proclaimers – Hammond organ), Giles Lamb {composer} – Piano, Beth Porter {The Bookshop Band} – Cello, Richard Batten – Trumpet ) and a painter in oils (William Goodsir), the ambition of this work broadened from keeping our heads above water in the dark nights to the creation of an album to savour for these end times and beyond.
